Darko Prebežac is tenured full professor at the Department of Tourism, Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb, where he received his bachelor, master and Ph.D. degrees. In the period of 1985-1997. he worked in Swissair (Zurich), Adria Airways (Zagreb and Ljubljana), Croatia Airlines (Zagreb and Frankfurt) and Croatia Reisen GmbH (Frankfurt). He has been employed at the Faculty of Economics & Business Zagreb since 1997 and held the position of head of the Department for three mandate periods (2002-2006 and 2014-2016).
He also used two scholarships for scientific training abroad: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA (pre-doc) and International Faculty Development Program, University of Navarra, IESE-International Graduate School of Management, Barcelona, Kingdom of Spain (post-doc).
In addition to his home faculty, he also taught at the faculties of economics at the University of Pula, Rijeka, Split, and Dubrovnik. As a visiting professor, he also taught at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, School of Travel Industry Management, Honolulu, Rollins College, Graduate School of Business, Orlando, Université de Genéve (UNIGE), Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, University of Economics in Ljubljana, University of Economics Prague, Faculty of Economics, University of Belgrade, and was leader and lecturer at the Summer School Alpen - Adria Sommeruniversität, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien.
In 2007, he joined a group of about 30 distinguished scientists, which founded the Tourism Education Futures Initiative (TEFI) in Vienna. The main findings of this initiative were presented at the TEFI 2011 World Congress in Philadelphia, the international Journal of Teaching in Travel & Tourism, and the book "The Tourism Education Futures Initiative - Activating Change in Tourism Education" (Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group, 2013), of which he is the first editor.
Currently he is the President of the FEB Council for Science. The mission of the Council is to advise the faculty management on how to increase scientific productivity, popularize economic science and foster the internationalization of scientific research.
He is the author and co-author of large number of scientific and professional papers, participates in scientific-research projects, conferences and training programs for managers in Croatian companies, and is a member of important international and domestic academic, and professional associations. He is a winner of several awards and prizes, the most important of which are the Annual National Science Award from the Croatian Parliament in the field of social sciences (2011) for his internationally published research and three "Mijo Mirković" awards from the Faculty of Economics & Business Zagreb (2001, 2011, 2013) for his research. He is fluent in English, German and Slovenian.
