Josip Mikulić is a full professor at the Department of Tourism, Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb, and a scientific advisor at the Institute for Tourism in Zagreb. He served as Head of the Department of Tourism for three consecutive terms from 2016 to 2022.
His research focuses on tourism, destination management, tourism policy, tourism impacts and externalities, seasonality, short-term rentals, destination development, and research methodology. A significant part of his recent work examines the economic and social effects of tourism in mature Mediterranean destinations, with a particular focus on Croatia.
He has received numerous national and international research awards. He is a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and has twice received the Croatian State Award for Science, awarded by the Croatian Parliament.
He is a member of the Executive Board of the Scientific Council for Tourism and Space of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. He is also one of five members of the Complaints Committee of the Croatian Science Foundation. In addition, he participates in working groups, advisory processes and expert studies related to tourism policy, destination management and sustainable tourism development.
He occasionally publishes expert commentaries and columns on hrturizam.hr and in Lider, Croatia’s leading business and management journal. He is fluent in English, German and French.
