The panel of actualities in the law and competition policy
"Economic analysis of the effects of implementation of the rules on competition protection"
will be held on February 12, 2019, from 17:00 to 19:00, Hall 7 of the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb
Briefly about the panel
What is the ex post economic analysis of the effects of applying the rules on competition protection? What's its goal? Why is it important?
When it comes to economic analysis of the effects of the work of the competition protection authorities, there are two main directions of research: microeconomic and macroeconomic.
The microeconomic approach focuses mainly on one particular market and observes the influence of regulation (or lack of regulation) on market structure, price, product quality, market entry / exit rate and the like. For this purpose, it uses a variety of methods (quantitative and qualitative, based on economic theory and based on pure statistics /data-driven/ etc.) in order to try to establish a causal link between agency activities on the one hand and further evolution of the targeted market on the other.
From the perspective of macroeconomics, the aggregate economic effects of the competition policy are analyzed, which are important for the validity of the competition policy. In this aspect different ways of measuring the effects of the competition policy are used, whether they are models that identify effects across the economy, whether it is measuring consumer benefits.
The panel is intended for economists and lawyers interested in law and competition policy.
