Career overview
Since 2019, she has been a full professor (tenured) in the field of economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business Zagreb (FEB), University of Zagreb. She graduated in 1997, received her master's degree in 2000 at FEB, and in 2003 PhD title as a part of her joint EDAMBA doctoral study at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and FEB. In FEB she teaches several subjects in the integrated undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate study programs - Macroeconomics, Macroeconomics of the Labour Market, Clusters and Competitiveness, Croatian Economics, Institutions and Employment Policies, etc. In two academic years (2020 - 2022) she was a Head of Department for Macroeconomics and Economic development. From the 2009/2010 academic year she has been a visiting professor at several EU universities (the University of Ljubljana, the Complutense University of Madrid, the University of the Balearic Islands, University of Lisbon, University of Malta, University of Granada, etc.). She is the author and co-author of several scientific books and university textbooks, co-editor of one scientific book, 3 proceedings of domestic scientific conferences, co-author of several chapters in scientific books and author of more than 110 articles in peer-reviewed journals. She has participated in numerous domestic and international scientific conferences and has been an invited speaker at several international conferences. She took part in numerous workshops and training programs in Croatia and abroad. Additionally, she was awarded “ITEC” scholarship (2000) by the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology and received twice “Ernst Mach Scholarship” (2001 and 2002) from the Austrian Ministry of Science. For her scientific work and research productivity she received several awards, including Annual Award of the Society of University Teachers and Other Scientists in Zagreb to young scientists and artists (in 2005) and scientific award 'Mijo Mirković' (in 2005, 2008, 2013, 2020, and 2023). As a researcher she took part in many scientific projects financed by Ministry of Science and Education (MSES) and Croatian Science Foundation (HrZZ), World Bank, Oxford Analytica, USAID, CERGE-EI, The Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS) and was a head of a bilateral Croatian-Slovenian scientific research project funded by the MSES. From 2018-2020 she was a member of the Working Group for Monitoring the Implementation of Active Employment Policy Measures at the Ministry of Labor and the Pension System, Government of the Republic of Croatia. Since 2024, she has been a researcher at HORIZON STEAMbrace project financed by European Commission in the framework of the call HORIZON - CL2-2023-HERITAGE-01-08 and Member of the Parent Committee for the field of social sciences, field of economics, Agency for Science and Higher Education.

Alka Obadić is a member of the editorial board for several journals, including Central European Public Administration Review, Business Excellence and International Public Administration Review and was also a member of the editorial board and one of the founders and member of the Editorial Review Board of Working Paper Series of FEB.

Moreover, she was a member of following conference the scientific and Organizing Committees: the scientific Conference "The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Croatian Economy - Two Years Later," (May 27, 2022, Zagreb, Croatia)); 11th Annual International Symposium on Economic Theory, Policy and Applications (18-21 July 2016, Athens, Greece); 18th Annual International Conference on Education (16-19 May 2016, Athens, Greece); Round table "The role of trade unions in modern society," (November 23, 2012, Zagreb, Croatia) and Scientific Symposium "Crisis: the transformation or destruction?" (November 23, 2010, Zagreb, Croatia). She also contributed as a member of evaluation committees for research activities of faculties and departments.
o Social responsible activities
Her socially responsible activities include active membership in the Society of University Teachers and Other Scientists in Zagreb as a member of assembly and later as a member of the board and from 2023 as a Vice president of the Society of University Teachers and Other Scientists in Zagreb. Since 2018 she is also a member of the Lions Club "Slava Raškaj", NORTH Zone IV, Zagreb.
o Activities outside the Faculty and connections with the business world
Her activities outside the Faculty includes her involvement in various expert bodies and working groups, such as a member of the Working Group for Monitoring the Implementation of Active Employment Policy Measures at the Ministry of Labor and Pension System, Government of the Republic of Croatia (in the period 2018-2022), a member of the Parent Committee for the field of social sciences, field of economics at the Agency for Science and Higher Education (from 2024) and serves as a researcher at the COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology), CA21118 - Platform Work Inclusion Living Lab (P-WILL).
o Memberships in different associations
She is also a member in different professional associations, including the Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER), World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology (WASET), Croatian Economic Society (HDE) and the Society of University Teachers, Scholars and other Scientists of the City of Zagreb.
