Biography
Marko Primorac attended XV. Gymnasium in Zagreb and enrolled the Faculty of Economics - Zagreb in 2003. During his studies, he received several scholarships and awards, including the Prof. Dr. Marijan Hanžeković award for the paper "Measuring the efficacy and productiveness of Croatian banks with the Malmquist index of change in total factor productivity". He graduated in 2007, and in 2009 completed his postgraduate studies defending the thesis on "Analysis of creditworthiness of local government units in Croatia" for which he received the award of the Croatian Association of Accountants and Financial Workers. In 2013, he defended his doctoral dissertation titled "Fiscal decentralization and mitigation of local inequalities in European Union countries and the Republic of Croatia" for which he was awarded the "Dr. Pero Jurković" award. He has been employed at the Faculty of Economics - Zagreb since 2007 and has taught "Public finance", "Local government finance", "Croatian tax system" and "Public debt management" in Croatian as well as “Public finance” in English. In addition, he is also engaged in teaching a "Tax systems" course at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics in Varaždin. Areas of his scientific work are public financial and risk management, fiscal federalism and taxation. He also participated in various study programs at the National University of Singapore, Università Bocconi - Milan, the American Institute on Political and Economic Systems and the Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht - Berlin. In 2009, he was a visiting researcher at Glasgow Caledonian University and in 2015 at CESifo (Center for Economic Studies and Ifo Institute) in Munich, where he became a CESifo research network affiliate. In 2016, he was a member of the expert Working group for the revision and development of new legislative solutions in Croatian tax system, and in 2017 a member of the Commission for the development of new local and regional government financing model. He speaks English and German.
