Faculty of Economics & Business - Zagreb

Student Competition in Presentation Skills In English and German – FEB

The ninth competition in presentation skills in English and German – ORGANIZE YOUR TALK – was held online at FEB from 4 to 14 June 2021. After seven years of presenting live before their colleagues and the jury members, in the two recent competitions the students presented in front of their computer or mobile phone cameras.

The presentations tackled economic and social topics, featuring EU’s achievements and policies that are a part of the regular curriculum of the first year courses in foreign languages for business purposes. Following a fierce competition in their seminar groups during the spring semester, less than 5% of all freshmen reach this final stage of the competition.

This long-lasting project of FEB’s Department of Business Foreign Languages was organised again in cooperation with the EU Commission Representation in the Republic of Croatia and the European Documentation Centre at the Library Documentation Centre of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb. Together with the corporate partners, EY, Adecco, and Kaufland the students were awarded with valuable prizes that included a visit to the EU Commission in Brussels, professional training, gift packages, and enrolment into a course of their choice in FEB’s English-taught BDiB study programme.

At the online awards ceremony the members of the winning teams in presenting in English and German Marko Blažević and Patricia Špinčić spoke of their enthusiasm in working with their colleagues under the mentorship of their instructors. A member of the jury FEB’s Professor Dubravka Sinčić Ćorić emphasised not only the quality of the students’ presentation skills but also the serious, current and demanding nature of the chosen topics. Ines Horvat of EY, the long-standing sponsor of OYT, particularly commended presentations in German as the competition’s branching out towards multilingualism. Vice dean for international cooperation and projects Professor Kosjenka Dumančić   praised the courage and eagerness of first year students who have been studying in the online environment the whole academic year, and expressed her optimism that next year all classes will return to the lecture halls.

Congratulations to all the winners looking forward to next year’s contest with the new generation of students of the Faculty of Economics & Business – Zagreb!
