It is our pleasure to invite you to the 5th online webinar organized by the Institute for Euroasian Research of FEB ZG, which will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021, starting at 2 p.m. via the Zoom app. Please click on the link https://zoom.us/j/98973798160 (Meeting ID: 989 7379 8160) to access the webinar.

Mr. Peter Pinguang YING, Associate Professor and Dean of the School of Trade Negotiations, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE), will hold a webinar on Chinese state-owned enterprises and ways of reform. The moderator of the webinar will be Prof. Mia Mikić, Ph.D., Asia-Pacific Trade Research and Training Network (ARTNeT) Advisor.

Professor Ying's presentation is divided into three parts: in the first part, he will present the status quo of Chinese state-owned enterprises and their current reforms, including whether these reforms meet the principle of competitive neutrality. The second part of the presentation will focus on the different understandings of the functions of state-owned enterprises between China and the West and the related controversies that may arise from them, with an emphasis on the participation of state-owned enterprises in global competition. Finally, the third section will discuss ways to address regulatory differences in state-owned enterprises at the global level, arguing that trade policies alone are not enough to address differences, while competition policy can serve as an alternative or complementary way to reform state-owned enterprises.
