Career overview

Prof. Tonći Lazibat, PhD, born in 1965 in Dubrovnik, Croatia, is a prominent academic and researcher in
economics, specializing in international trade and quality management. After earning his degree in
International Exchange from the University of Split in 1990, he completed his master’s science degree at
the University of Zagreb in 1993 and obtained his PhD from the University of Mostar in 1996, with his
dissertation on Croatia's export strategy being recognized by the University of Zagreb in 1998. In 2022, he
earned a second PhD in humanities from the University of Zadar with a dissertation on Croatian poet
Dragutin Tadijanović.
Lazibat began his career in international trade at Dubrovkinja before transitioning into academia in 2000,
joining the Faculty of Economics at the University of Zagreb. He was promoted to full professor in 2007,
holding various leadership roles, including two terms as dean (2010-2014) and vice-rector for business at
the University of Zagreb (2014-2022). He has also held prominent positions such as president of the
administrative councils of major Croatian hospitals and served on the supervisory board of the Zagreb
Stock Exchange.
In addition to his extensive academic and managerial roles, Prof. Lazibat has been a visiting professor at
several universities, including Osijek, Zadar, and Sarajevo. He is a certified quality manager, lead auditor for
quality management systems, and has conducted research and training at prestigious institutions like
Harvard University and MIT.
As a prolific author, he has published over 100 scientific and professional works and served as editor-in-
chief of Business Excellence journal. His contributions to science and quality management have earned him
several awards, including the Mijo Mirković Award (2005) and the Croatian Society of Quality Managers
Award (2011).

Prof. Lazibat is a published poet, with his poetry earning accolades such as the Dragutin Tadijanović Foundation Award in 2020.
