Biography
Velibor Mačkić is an Associate professor and President of the Economic Analytics module council at the Integrated Undergraduate and Graduate University Study Program in Business Economics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Zagreb, where he has been employed since 2009. Since 2020, he serves as a Special Advisor for the Economy and Chair of the Economic Council of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović. He gained his previous work experience at Société Générale - Splitska banka d.d. He defended his doctoral thesis in 2015 at the University of Zagreb on the topic of the influence of politicians and voters on the political-budgetary cycle. He received additional education in the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy, France, the Netherlands and Spain. His research interests are (new) political economy, behavioural economics and analysis of the competitiveness of modern economies. He has published several award-winning scientific papers, including the prestigious annual award of the Marijan Hanžeković Foundation in 2013 for the best scientific paper. As a researcher, he participated in projects funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, the European Social Fund and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Behavioural Microeconomics, Microeconomics, Principles of Economics, Political Economy and Political-Economic Analysis. From 2018 to 2021 he taught part of the lectures in the course Microeconomic Analysis and from 2021 he has been teaching Selected Topics in Political Economy and Competitiveness Analysis in the Conditions of Globalization at the doctoral program in Economics. He is a reviewer for numerous journals, including: Contemporary Economic Policy, Croatian operational research review, Economic Thought and Practice, Economic Review, Croatian and Comparative Public Administration and Public Sector Economics. He is an external associate of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Zagreb, an alumni of the Academy for Political Development and a member of the Management Board of the Miko Tripalo Center for Democracy and Law.
