Challenges of the Croatian Economy in 2019

A panel Challenges of the Croatian Economy in 2019 was organized on February 26, 2019 by the Croatian Association of Alumni of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Zagreb. Welcome to the Alumni and other guests was delivered by Prof. Jurica Pavičić, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Economics & Business and Prof. Boris Vujčić, PhD, President of the Croatian Association of Alumni of the Faculty of Economics & Business.

Under the moderator stick of Mr. Miodrag Šajatović, editor-in-chief of Lider magazine, along with Governor Vujčić about the micro and macro challenges that are expected this year, spoke Mr. Zvonimir Mršić from Agrokor and Mr. Emil Tedeschi from Atlantic Group.

After short introductory speeches, among other things, Croatia's readiness for a possible new recession cycle was discussed. Governor Vujčić noted that Croatia was better prepared and in a better position than during 2008/2009 crises. Regarding the situation in the Croatian economy, Mr. Tedeschi agreed that the environment is better than it was in 2009. He noted that many people are inclined to point their finger at the Government for their business problems, while too few companies are essentially transforming and utilizing historically low interest rates and available development opportunities. He also believes that there are no new small businesses and investments in Croatia, which is also caused by the regulation problem. He stressed that it would be necessary to create an incentive ecosystem for people to return to homeland, which has comparative advantages as well as to attract new employees. Mr. Mršić also agreed with him, who is considering that the big challenge is the sufficient workforce, especially during the season.
At the end of the panel discussion, members of the Alumni also asked the panelists several interesting questions. After the official part, the informal socializing of Alumni members continued in the popular KEFA fast-food restaurant. Sponsor of the party was Badel 1862 company, and in the organized lottery the luckiest were awarded the gift packages of the Faculty of Economics & Business and Badel 1862.
