Academicians and professors emeriti

Academicians

The Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts (JAZU – now: Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts / HAZU) was founded in Zagreb in 1866 as the Croatian National Academy, although Croatia was not an independent state. JAZU / HAZU, despite two world wars and five changes in state systems, has been operating continuously to this day, and according to Art. 24 of the Statute of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts can have 160 full (or by its ancient name real) members.

In the hundred years of its existence (1920-2020), there have been eighteen full members of JAZU / HAZU (seventeen male and one female academicians) affiliated to our Faculty. Only seven of them were economists, but as our Faculty from the very beginning gathered top lecturers also of the related scientific branches (especially lawyers and linguists), it is not a surprise that there were so many non-economists in different employment statuses (full-time or part-time), who later became academicians. But if we take into account that e.g. all HSCT / EKHS teachers with the title of an Assistant Professor (university, public or private) were adjunct Assistant Professors, or that some of the future academicians in the first decade after WW II “filled” the vacant lecture posts at ECHS / FE necessary for the normal teaching process, and that some of them “spent“ almost their entire working life occupying the adjunct position at our Faculty (e.g. Vladislav Brajković, F.C.A., for a total of 39 uninterrupted years), we can rightly consider them as our own.
