The official opening of the 1. year of the Bachelor Degree in Business study will be on Monday, October 4th at 2 pm at room number 14. All 1.year BDiB students and other BDiB students are kindly invited to participate in a short opening ceremony.
In the period from 1st till 15th May 2011 Faculty of Economics and Business of University of Zagreb in cooperation with the Cracow University of Economics organized the International Seminar on „HRM in Service Industry - Case Study of Poland and Croatia“. The seminar was attended by 25 students of senior years of study of which 12 were from Cracow University of Economics (Poland) and 13 from the Faculty of Economics and Business of University of Zagreb (Croatia).
The organizational part of the seminar was coordinated by:
Lectures at the Croatian Chamber of Economy and the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts were focused on the issue of institutionalization of lifelong education and practical training in order to raise the competitiveness of individuals in accordance to demand on the labor market.
In Konzum Academy, students were informed about and discussed the topic of a good practice of recruitment. They had also an opportunity to see the center for internal training of employees aimed to develop specific skills in the controlled environment of the experimental school store
During the visit to Maistra, Adris group’s member, the students’ attention was drawn to the issues of seasonalities of employment in tourist industry. Moreover, the strategic planning and staff competence issues under the conditions of periodic fluctuations were highlighted and explained.
The second week of the seminar was held in Poland, where also series of interesting lectures and visits to companies were organized. Welcome speech and introductory lecture about the vision and mission of the Cracow University of Economics was held by prof. dr. hab. Czeslaw Mesjasz (Head of Center for International Scientific Cooperation) and prof. dr. hab. Aleksy Pocztowski (Head of Department for Human Capital Management). The Croatian team was also welcomed by Agnieszka Nawrocka (Head of the International Relations Office) and Dominika Lemler (Coordinator for Erasmus Programme). After the welcome part, doc. dr. sc. Marek Szarucki briefly described the dynamics of the number of students and the university potential for international cooperation.
During the week the students had an opportunity to learn about the specifics of the Polish labour market. Malogorzata Dudzinska (WUP Krakow) gave an insight into the labor market situation in Poland and explained the necessity of formal training structure adapted to the demand on the labor market. Aneta Stryczek (PCO / DMC) held a lecture about the management of human resources in tourism.
Students visited Leroy Merlin, one of Europe's leading DIY retail chains, where a presentation about program “Kuźnia Talentów” (eng. forge of talents) was held. This is the program through which preferences and interpersonal abilities of newly employed are identified before they are allocated to the specific workplace. Moreover, students attended a lecture about the procedure of selection of candidates for employment in Shell which was held by a representative of Academy of Shell Poland.
Except the lectures, there were workshops during which the students were solving four main cases, and several smaller ones. These cases were devoted to:
1. Labour Market - comparison of Croatia and Poland
2. Lifelong learning in tourism - comparison of Croatia and Poland
3. Lifelong learning in retail - comparison of Croatia and Poland
4. Retail Internationalization - comparison of Croatian and Polish market
The international team's work on the case-studies was concluded with a final presentation which was held on the 13th of May 2011 at the Cracow University of Economics. Also, on the 24th of May 2011 the group of Croatian students submitted a report and results of the seminar to the Dean (prof. dr. sc. Tonći Lazibat) and Vice-Deans (prof. dr. sc. Lajoš Žager and doc. dr. sc. Sanda Rašić) of the Faculty of Economics and Business of University of Zagreb, and representatives of Croatian institutions and enterprises.
The international seminar gave an unique opportunity to meet for a first time, to work together and to learn from each other, at the same time providing great intercultural experience for the students from Zagreb and Krakow. In these two weeks the participants of the seminar travelled together more than 2000 kilometers at the same time learning about the culture, history and real life of Croatia and Poland. From Faculty of Economics and Business of University of Zagreb students who were taking part at the seminar are: Nikolina Brcković, Dijana Čabrajić, Ivan Čalić, Nikolina Jozić, Daria Keršić, Marko Krajnović, Tijana Marić, Sanja Merćep, Eva Pavić, Ivana Penava, Marko Radmanić, Petra Škrobot and Ozren Winkler. They have successfully promoted Faculty and University by applying their knowledge to develop team cases and, what is the most important, they contributed to the image of our homeland which is promoted as "a country of sunshine and smiles", where people are capable to have good time with colleagues during the effective work.
