The FEB celebrates 95. anniversary of existance

The Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb organized a gala event which celebrated “Faculty Day” and its 95th anniversary. In his opening statement the dean, prof. dr. sc. Lajoš Žager looked back on a long tradition, emphasizing the numerous efforts made in the past year such as achievements in the field of international cooperation with prestigious international institutions, the development of new study programs, conducting numerous scientific conferences and projects involving teachers and students from the Faculty of Economics and Business - Zagreb.

 

The Formal Celebration was enriched by the attendance and commemorative speeches the President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, the Minister of Science, Education and Sports, prof. dr. sc. Vedran Mornar and prof. dr. sc. Damir Boras, Rector of the University of Zagreb.

 

The President of Croatia pointed out that she strongly supports the work of the Faculty members and their efforts to provide quality education to their students and thus facilitate economic development and international visibility and recognition for the University of Zagreb.

 

"I cannot emphasize the importance of the role of education in the economic development of the country", said President Grabar-Kitarović. She added that in such difficult times for the Croatian economy, which seek the highest possible commitment to overcome the crisis, the example of the activity of the Faculty of Economics and Business - cooperation with the real economy through a variety of educational programs, creation of expert studies and surveys to companies and public bodies - shows how science and education can help the economy.

 

Among the many guests were the Vice-rectors of the University of Zagreb, professor. dr. sc. Tonći Lazibat, prof. dr. sc. Ivana Čuković-Bagić, prof. dr. sc. Ante Čović, prof. dr. sc. Mirjana Hruškar, rectors of the University of Split, Osijek, Pula, Vice-Rectors of the University of Dubrovnik and Croatian Catholic University; academics Alica Wertheimer Baletić, Zvonimir Baletić, Vladimir Stipetić, Gordan Družić and other representatives of economic and social entities of the city of Zagreb and Croatia; deans and vice-deans of faculties from the University of Zagreb and other economic and business faculties in Croatia and the region.

 

On the occasion of the “Faculty Day”, the “Mijo Mirković” award was presented for scientific work in the field of economic science and "dr. Pero Jurković" award for young scientists in the field of finance. Top students were presented with the Dean's Award for success in their studies, written work and extracurricular activities. Special thanks from the Dean were given to the Rector of the University of Zagreb, prof. dr. sc. Damir Boras, Vice-Rectors prof. dr. sc. Ante Čović and prof. dr. sc. Tonći Lazibat, the President of the University Council of the University of Zagreb Peter Mišević, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce and its president, Luka Burilović, a member of the Accreditation Council dr. sc. Ivan Miloloža and professor emeritus Mate Grgić.

The Formal Celebration of the Faculty was magnified by an appropriate program performed by the choir of Faculty of Economics - Sonus oeconomicus.

 

The celebration was preceded by the opening of its newly refurbished Library and Documentation Centre, which was opened with the symbolic ribbon cutting by Rector Boras. On that occasion, he stressed how important it is to invest in libraries which are of crucial importance to the education of students and scientific research.
