Round Table "Pays to know"

At the Faculty of Economics on the 28th of April 2016, under the auspices of the Croatian President, was held a round table "pays to know". Introductory speeches were given by prof. Ph. D.. Lajoš Žager, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Marko Jurčić, an adviser to the President for the Economy and prof. Ph. D.. Marijana Ivanov from the Department of Finance.

The round table was attended by Ivana Jakir Bajo, Deputy Minister of Finance and the Treasurer General, Boris Vujčić, Governor of the Croatian National Bank, Darko Tot from the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, Boris Jokić, head of curriculum reform, Slaven Đuroković, board member and partner of Ernst & Young Ltd. and doc. Ph. D.. Tomislav Ćorić from the Department of Finance of the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb.

 

The participants, among other things, discussed the importance of financial literacy in modern society, the needs to include financial education in the curriculum of secondary schools. They commented on their past activities for the financial literacy of young people and the conditions for sustained financial education of youth through curriculum civic education in the Republic of Croatia.

 

They agreed that educational institutions are responsible for the implementation of financial education of citizens, as well as the whole public and private sector and that cooperation between them with the aim of creating a financially literate and responsible consumers is necessary.

 

The project "pays to know" is organized in the month marking financial literacy, with the aim of spreading and promoting financial literacy among citizens, especially young people. The project, whose idea initials Ph. D.. Andrea Razum with the Department of Marketing and Ph.D. Diana Barbić with the Department of Finance, organized a number of workshops for high school students, workshops for citizens, debates and the round table. The emphasis was on teaching high school students about personal finance to acquire basic knowledge and therefore be participants in responsible consumption.

 

To further motivate high school students, the organizing committee also arranged a contest within which high school students should record a short video and humorously explain the importance of financial literacy, and the winner was Stela Anetić.

 

Alongside the Faculty of Economics involved in the the organizing committee are Štedopis - an Institute for Financial Education in Zagreb, the student association Economic clinic, the  Financial Club, the Debate Club, and the Association of Croatian high school pupils and Wüstenrot.
