Departure of Prof. Miljenko Bilen, Ph.D.

On Friday, April 22, 2022, Professor Emeritus Miljenko Bilen left us forever. Professor Bilen was born in 1943 (Stinica near Senj, January 3, 1943). He received his bachelor's and doctoral degrees (1980) from the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science in Zagreb. Since 1974 he has been teaching Economic Geography at the Faculty of Foreign Trade, (in 1982 integrated into the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb). Since 1998 he has been a full professor at the Faculty of Economics & Busines - Zagreb, and since 2014 a professor emeritus of the University of Zagreb.
From 1991 to 1994 Prof. Bilen has performed the duty of the Dean of the Faculty of Economics & Business in Zagreb as the first Dean elected in free Croatia.
His areas of scientific and professional interest were the socio-economic consequences of external migration, economic and geographical aspects of production and exchange of goods and services on the world and domestic markets, regional economic organizations and integration, tourism and space, and resource analysis in tourism.
Professor Bilen is the author of several text-books: Economic Geography of World Trade (co-author, 1988), Regional Markets of Europe and the World (1993), International and Domestic Markets of Products and Services (1994), Fundamentals of Tourist Geography (1996) and Markets of Products and Services (1997).
We will keep our esteemed and dear colleague, a prominent economist, a member of the Department of Trade, in our lasting memory.
The last farewell of the dear late Prof. Miljenko Bilen, Ph.D., was on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at 12:00 at Mirogoj Cemetery. RiP!



A commemoration dedicated to the late Professor Emeritus Miljenko Bilen will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 3:00 PM in Hall 14 - New Council Hall.
