Brown Bag Seminar - Prof. Josip Tica, Ph.D.

The presentation at the 18th Brown Bag Seminar will be given by Prof. Josip Tica, Ph.D. from the Chair of Macroeconomics and Economic Development. He will present the paper "An Agnostic View of the 30 Years of Transition".

The Brown Bag Seminar will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at the Faculty of Economics & Business in Hall 54, beginning at 2 p.m.

A brief summary of the presentation:
The 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in itself imposes the theme of a retrospective of the transition process. In addition, 30 years of empirical data on the journey to the market offers a unique research opportunity to question a whole set of theories that have shaped the mindset of economic policymakers and public debate throughout the process. The aim of the research is primarily to initiate a discussion of the factors of relative lag (growth), but also to empirically ground the hypotheses, ie., the "beliefs" that have shaped the debates about the economic (un) success of the Croatian economy during the transition. Data were analyzed for over 40 macroeconomic indicators in 31 transition countries in the period after 1989. Data for the Far East are also included and classic growth factors and a range of macroeconomic indicators from the fiscal, monetary and international economics are analyzed among potential growth factors. Preliminary results indicate that only a small number of transition specificities can be observed relative to classical growth factors. However, in analyzing the structure of growth factors it is very difficult to find empirical strongholds for conventional theoretical predictions.
Description of the Brown Bag Seminar concept :
The Brown Bag Seminar (BBS) is an informal one-hour workshop with aim of presenting research in different stages of design (ideas, rounded theoretical framework, conducted empirical research, etc.), promoting discussion and creating a stimulating environment focused on the constructive discussion between exhibitors and the rest of participants of the seminar. The basic idea of the BBS is to create a platform where at least once a month, the FEB ZG employees will have the opportunity to present the ideas and articles they work on within their scientific-research work. We invite you to respond and help with your constructive comments to exhibitors and expose by yourself the topics you are currently working on, unpublished works or present the research ideas you are thinking about.
