Department of Tourism

This website provides you a brief overview of tourism study programs at all levels as well as department's 18 full, associate and adjunct faculty members who cover a wide range of tourism courses.
The Department of Tourism is a member of UNWTO Education Council (EdC) and the only representative from Croatia in this prominent organization. In order to become a member of this organization, it is required to have TedQual certificate – a guarantee that education and research in tourism is done in accordance with the highest quality standards defined by UNWTO EdC. The Department of Tourism is the only educational institution in Croatia with a TedQual certificate – it was received in 2001.
Beside regular study programs, each year department organizes a special education program for Tourism majors: ITHAS - International Tourism and Hospitality Academy at Sea. ITHAS participants are students from Croatia, Slovenia, Spain, Germany, Finland and Canada, and ITHAS lecturers are the most prominent tourism professors, which some of them are members of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism. The program takes place within a cruise in Croatia or abroad. So far, the project was successfully implemented five times - in 2005 (Croatia), 2006 (Croatia), 2007 (Danube - Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary), 2008 (Croatia), and 2010 (Croatia).
The Department also organizes seminars and exams for tourist guides and travel agency managers.
We are proud of the fact that the scientific journal Acta Turistica, which celebrated 20th anniversary in 2008. The journal is published twice a year and is used as a reference in international secondary publications and most prominent data bases.
