Zagreb International Conference on the Law of Obligations

Zagreb International Conference on the Law of Obligations will be held at the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb on December 12 and 13, 2019.
 
The conference is organized by the Department of Law, Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb, in the framework of the celebrations of the UNCITRAL Secretariat for the 40th anniversary of the CISG, and in cooperation with ELI Global Private Law SIG of the European Law Institute.

The conference will be opened with welcome-speeches by Prof. Jurica Pavičić, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb, Prof. Igor Gliha, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, Prof. Albert Ruda-González, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Girona, and Mr. Đuro Sessa, President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia.
 
Keynote speech will be delivered by Prof. Erik Van den Haute, Ph.D., of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, on "Reform and restatement of the law of obligations: the 'slow food' of European harmonization of private law".
 
UNCITRAL delegates Mr. Alexander Kunzelmann and Mr. David Nikolaus Probst will also make speeches during the conference.
 
The conference will host a meeting of members of the ELI Global Private Law SIG, a special scientific group of the European Law Institute, which is open to other members of the European Law Institute, as well as to anyone interested in the activities of the European Law Institute.
 
The conference will feature 71 papers in thirteen sessions addressing, among others, current issues in European contract and tort law, new codifications of the law of obligations in Central and Southeast Europe, contemporary challenges to law of obligations such as blockchain technology and artificial intelligence, and key issues of Croatian law of obligations in a comparative legal context, and a special session is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods
 
Presentations at the conference will be mostly in English and some sessions in Croatian with simultaneous translation into English.
 
A total of 82 conference speakers will present at the conference, most of them from European universities, but also from the US and Asia. In addition to members of the global academic community, conference speakers also include judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia and the Commercial Court in Zagreb, as well as Zagreb's attorneys and business lawyers.
 
Conference participants should register for the conference until December 10, 2019, 9:00 AM (CET), with payment of a registration fee. Please note that the number of conference participants is limited, and that the registration will be open until the maximum number of conference participants is reached. It is highly recommended not to wait for the last moment to register for the conference, given the possibility of registration being closed before December 10, 2019.
