Round Table Chile as OECD Member: Sharing Valuable Experience with Croatia on Path to Membership

On December 5, 2018 in organization of the Faculty of Economics & Business of the University of Zagreb and the Embassy of the Republic of Chile in the Republic of Croatia, was held a round table titled Chile as OECD Member: Sharing Valuable Experience with Croatia on Path to Membership. The Round Table was organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics of the University of Rijeka and the Institute for Public Finance. On behalf of the organizers the audience was addressed by Prof. Jurica Pavičić, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business and H. E. Juan Luis Nilo Valledor, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to the Republic of Croatia.

With regard to the Croatia's interest in joining the OECD, learning about Chile's experience could be of great importance to Croatia. Therefore, Chile's representatives shared their experiences during the negotiations for entry into the OECD. Ambassador Felipe Morandé Lavín, Permanent Representative of Chile to the OECD, noted that OECD membership influenced the policy formulation and implementation process in Chile, while Mr. Rodrigo Monardes Vignolo, Counselor of the Chile's Permanent Delegation with OECD, focused on the technical aspects of the Chilean accession process to the OECD.

Prof. Catherine Ott, PhD, Director of the Public Finance Institute, stressed the importance of budget transparency, openness and civic participation, and the role of the OECD as a promoter of best practices of budgetary transparency. The experiences of the Baltic countries and Slovenia within the framework of the accession treaties and the expectations that Croatia has in this aspect has been analyzed by Assist. Prof. Vinko Zaninović, PhD, from the Faculty of Economics in Rijeka.
