The In-Depth Review within European Commission Structural Reform Report represents one of the constituent parts of the so-called European Semester that represents the framework for co-ordination of economic policies among the European Union countries. The objectives of the European Semester are: to ensure stable public finances, to prevent excessive macroeconomic imbalances in the EU and to support structural reforms to create more jobs and growth and to stimulate investment. The role of the Commission is to conduct a detailed analysis every year of each country's budget, macroeconomic and structural reforms. This year's Report on Structural Reforms of the European Commission for the Republic of Croatia will be published in November 2018 and as a key step in this process, representatives of the Delegation of the General Directorate for Economy and Finance of the European Commission (DG ECOFIN) will present the In-Depth Review of the Croatian economy. Based on this document and the overall Structural Reform Report, the European Commission submits recommendations to governments of the EU Member States for the next 12 to 18 months.
Until now, the reports have been presented to the Government of the Republic of Croatia and a narrow circle of interested public (academies, trade unions, employers' organizations, etc.) and from this autumn all reports within the European Semester will be presented at the Faculty of Economics & Business. The basic idea is to open a dialogue between representatives of the European Commission, the Government of Croatia and the professors and students of the Faculty of Economics & Business in Zagreb. The Faculty is an inevitable place in presenting and analyzing all topics related to the economy and economic policy of the Republic of Croatia and a place where not only educate prospective leaders but also an organization that actively participates in debates on all economically important issues of the country.
