Organized by the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and the University Luiss Guido Carli in Rome, from 25th to 27th of August 2016 in Rome was held competition Rotman European Trading Competition 2016.
Organized by the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and the University Luiss Guido Carli in Rome, from 25th to 27th of August 2016 in Rome was held competition Rotman European Trading Competition 2016.
The event attended 116 representatives from 29 universities from 28 EU Member States and Norway. One team from each country was given a chance to defend the colors of their country and the faculty, Croatia with Zagreb University presented students of the Faculty of Economics Barbara Galic, Filip Špiranec and Magdalena Ećimović and mathematics student from PMF Denis Pavicic.
In three-day event, participants used the knowledge of macroeconomics and finance, analytical and numerical skills to successfully trade indices, electricity European and corporate bonds in the simulated trading platform. Competitors traded individually, but with the aim of teamwork and achieving the highest total profit. Croatian team achieved high seventh place and is positioned in front of the United Kingdom, Sweden, Austria, Norway, Finland, Luxembourg and many other big European names.
The competition was a great opportunity for integration and application of knowledge in a practical setting where the result is a very tangible - you earn or you lose. Also, inspiring environment and the possibility of networking and dating excellent students from all over Europe are even more important element in this competition. We were put in a real situation where we also have to be calm and unruffled as we traded through computers, but also assertive and quick as we traded in the "old fashioned way". We went to this competition with low expectations because the competition comes from the renowned European universities such as the London Business School, Copenhagen Business School and others, but in the end we overtook them, which gives us a certificate of quality, from student perspective, as well as confirmation of the opportunities provided by the Zagreb University Faculty of Economics and myself also, "said student Magdalena Ećimović.
